Info Post

Back again with another installment of the popular hair trends for Fall 2012!  It certainly doesn't feel like fall here in Fresno, but we all know that stores are starting to debut their fall lines, and with people going back to school, it's never too early to start perfecting the trendy hair for the upcoming months.

Here are a few styles from the runway that are easily transferred to everyday wear.  Enjoy!

1.  Sleek Ponytails

  • Did you sort of like the wet hair trend, but didn't think it was wearable?  Well, then this is for you!
  • Sleek ponytails were seen all over the runway like this gorgeous deep-side parted pony from Marc Jacobs.
  • While hair is slightly damp, apply styling lotion (thick hair) or foam mousse (normal to fine hair) and run from roots to ends.
  • Form a deep side part on whichever side you choose, and use a flat paddle brush to smooth the top layer.
  • Secure the ponytail at the nape of your neck and wrap a small strand of hair around to hide the elastic.
  • Mist with a fine hold hair spray for extra control.

2.  Twists
  • I said back in my 2012 Hair Trends post that twists were going to start gaining popularity.
  • Girls are looking for a new way to style their hair without using the braiding techniques that everyone has mastered.
  • If you're ready to try something new, try twists as styled by the models in Valentino.
  • Blow dry hair with a flat paddle brush to get hair as sleek as possible.  If needed, run a flat iron  over the top mid shaft of hair to the ends.
  • Starting at the sides of the head, above the ears, gently begin twisting hair toward your head and every so often, secure with a bobby pin.
  • When you get to the back, keep twisting hair to the end and coil into a twisted bun and pin.
  • Repeat on the other side.
  • Mist with a fine hold hair spray for extra control.

3.  Bouffants
  • I am so glad bouffants have stuck around for fall because I love them!
  • Reminiscent of the popular 60's hairstyles like the bee hive, bouffants give the hair a very retro glam look like this one from Carolina Herrera.
  • A must for creating bouffants, texture, and teasing, a teasing comb is essential for up styles.  Find them at any drugstore or beauty supply store.
  • For this look, take small 1-2 inch section of hair from the sides and top, and back comb the hair from roots to the ends.
  • Start at the front hair line, over directing hair forward and back comb.  Continue until you reach the crown.  You'll have some big hair!
  • Gently smooth down the first layer of hair to get it smooth without taking away any of the back combing
  • Gently comb hair back into a low ponytail and secure.
  • Choose any sort of ribbon or decorative headband and place close to the front hairline to keep the bouffant in the back.
  • Mist with hair spray.
There you have it!  Some fun new styles for the Fall!  Stay tuned for my post on the top product picks for Fall 2012 in the coming weeks! :)
