Info Post
I haven't done a hair post in a long time, so I think the blog is due for one.  How about now? :)

I don't know about you, but my hair completely changes from winter to summer, thus meaning I have to change my routines and my products.  In winter, my hair is dry and static prone, and in summer, my hair reacts to humidity, and looks dull because of fading and chlorine.  So what is a girl to do?  Read on to find out!

1.  Chlorine and Salt Water

  • Who doesn't love taking a dip in the pool, lake, or ocean during summer??  I know I love to!  But chlorine and salt water can wreak havoc on your hair.  Chlorine can take beautiful blondes and turn them into Swamp thing, casting a sickly green hue in your hair.  Salt water (albeit, fun to get beachy waves out of) can severely dry out hair and leave it in a state of lifelessness.
  • Remedies: Rinse hair in normal water before entering any pool or ocean.  Your hair will absorb the water and not the chemically treated or salt water resulting in less contamination.  You can also apply a leave-in conditioner to protect against UVA and UVB rays to prevent fading, and soften at the same time:

Neutrogena Silk Touch Leave-In Creme $6.99

2.  Humidity
  • I know CA's humidity is nowhere close to say, that of Florida, but any moisture in the air can cause big hair problems (pun intended ;))  You can leave the house with perfectly tousled tresses, or sleek, shiny hair, and POW!  Humidity strikes and you look like Monica Geller from Friends when the gang visits Barbados.
  • Remedies: Ensure that you are using a quality shampoo and conditioner to make sure you hair is in the utmost of health.  Frizz happens to everyone, but healthy hair, can fight it better.  Look for an anti-frizz serum that states it will fight through humidity:
Redken Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk $17.50

KMS Flat Out Anti Humidity Spray $11.99

3.  Oil from Sweating
  • Yep.  I sweat.  A lot in summer, actually.  But how can you not when it's 105 out?  Taking showers everyday sound delicious, but constantly shampooing your hair will only dry it out.  A little oil is a good thing, but too much of it can make styling no fun.
  • Remedies: Invest in a clarifying shampoo and use once a week.  This will help to really deep clean your hair after all those long days of swimming and surfing.  And definitely invest in a dry shampoo.  Even if your "next day" hair is going to be a ponytail, a little dry shampoo at the roots can create some great texture, and it will keep you from looking like an oil slick:

Now, stop messing with your hair and get outside and enjoy the sunshine! <3
